Early Number Concepts

Number bonds
What are number bonds? They show the part-part-whole relationship between numbers. They are a building block to start to get students to understand the relationship between numbers. You may know them as fact triangles. They allow students to form fact families with the numbers in the bond.
The fact family for this number bond is:3 + 2 = 5
2 + 3 = 5
5 - 2 = 3
5 - 3 = 2
The Common Core standards say that children in kindergarten need to be able to fluently add and subtract within 5. Number bonds help them see the relationship between the numbers they are adding and subtracting.
